Hello friends!
I write a weekly newsletter about:
My search for a home because for many years now, I’ve been roaming the world, looking for a place where I can exhale and stay a while. I don’t have roots and it’s been surprisingly difficult to grow some. But I’d like to try.
Searching for inner peace, because a history of depression, trauma and addiction made this seem impossible for most of my life. It’s been – and continues to be – a path full of plot twists, so I try to untangle the many layers and share what I think works.
Seeking a life well lived, because I woke up very late to the fact that to be truly alive, we have to be true to ourselves. We have to own our dreams, and go after them with savage honesty, even if – especially if – it’s not a life that makes sense to other people (mine, I can assure you, definitely doesn’t).
Here are three posts to read, if you like:
I also share my art, discoveries and recommendations (I know from feedback I have received for over a decade that you really, really like my recommendations!). In fact, I’ve now added lists of my favourite films, books and more to the archive, which you can find on the homepage under Culture.
Here are some:
For those who have the itch to get creative but for whatever reason are not, I’ve been there. I had a near 30–year block on drawing, painting and all matters art, which I broke only recently. Under the Creativity tab, I share more, including:
Unblocking Creativity (paywall)
Who am I?
My name is Nupu Press. I tell stories using art and text (or, sometimes, only text). I was born in Bangladesh, raised in Kuwait, and educated in the US and Italy. I was based in the UK and worked in India over 25 years in film production. Now I’m living out of a suitcase, looking for that home.
It took a pandemic for me to leave film and return to my first love of drawing. So, along with everything else, I am also seeking how to set up a brand new career in mid–life!
If you’re interested: I have a book (text) called Seeking and Belonging: 27 essays and a poem.
I also have a book (art and text) called My Illustrated Camino Diary, which was drawn/painted and written as I walked the Camino de Santiago in Spain.
Both books are available on Amazon worldwide as print and ebooks. (In Bangladesh, print books are available at Bookworm bookshop.)
I share my sketchbook diaries using watercolour and text on Instagram. You can also see more of my art on nupupress.com.
