I started this ritual when I began writing a blog in 2013. I’m generally so future-focused, I’m forever impatient for the Next Thing; as such, new year’s resolutions are catnip for me. The new, improved me is just around the corner!
I can get very occupied making lists, daydreaming and focusing on all the things I want to happen. Then I thought, wait, first let me take stock of the things that I learnt this year. The very things that would in fact go on to help me outline what I wanted to change/upgrade/revise for the year ahead. Articulating these “leaps” I’d made over the year were to acknowledge what I’d learnt and also a way to pause and show my gratitude for them.
